Block Busters Vol 1 No 1 (1971)
Block Busters launched in the summer of 1971 as yet another unapologetically bosom-focused entry into the increasingly competitive world of men’s magazine publishing. Released by American Art Enterprises, this inaugural issue established its niche immediately: large-chested women presented in high-gloss photo spreads, mixed with light fiction, suggestive satire, and what the publisher positioned as “sociological content.”
Published quarterly, the magazine joined the ranks of similarly themed titles from the Southern California scene, with clear ties to Parliament News, Inc. The editorial note inside makes no effort to mask its intent — to seek out and photograph some of the most top-heavy women available at the time and to present them in fresh, titillating, full-color layouts. Many of the featured models were new to readers, but a few familiar faces appear in new styling and poses.

Editorial Commentary
The editorial page strikes a celebratory, almost comical tone — emphasizing the magazine’s dedication to “glorifying women’s glories,” and promising to search the world for women whose busts command admiration. There’s a strong sense of tongue-in-cheek self-awareness, blending vintage chauvinism with performative adoration. The commentary openly acknowledges the selective appeal of its content: “who cares about the faces?” the editor jokes — a line both humorous and telling of the era’s approach to erotic publishing.
Collector’s Notes
As the first issue in the Block Busters series, this volume holds value among collectors of vintage men’s magazines, particularly those focused on busty pinup subgenres. Its 64 pages include full-page glossy photo layouts, and the cover featuring Heidi Anders as Millicent is often highlighted for its bold red and black title design.
First printings are harder to find in excellent condition, due to spine stress and staple rusting. Clean centerfolds and intact corners are a plus for resale and archive value.
